Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has labelled midfielder Fred ‘frenetic’ but insists the Brazilian always brings quality to the team when he is given a chance.
Fred returned to Manchester United’s lineup for their 1-0 win over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night, combining with national teammate, Casemiro in the middle.
Fred is behind Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Scott McTominay in Ten Hag’s pecking order and has made just two Premier League starts this season.
The former Ajax manager said he is looking to make the most of a relationship between Casemiro and Fred, built up from their national team.
He also that Fred brings a ‘frenetic’ nature to the side, which he reckons will be useful.
“Yeah, definitely, and [it’s] one of the reasons,” Ten Hag told reporters on picking the pair on their Brazilian connection.
“But also you see Fred doing so well in training. When he is coming in, he always brings the quality.
“What we need definitely is counter-press today and he’s frenetic, so I think he’s a good choice today.”
